Day Sesshin Bushkill Temple June 06 2021

Sesshin is a great opportunity to experience Zen Monastic practice. Come join the Blue Mountain Sangha for Summer Sesshin, and gain true and lasting insight.
“Sesshin”, literally “to collect the mind”, is the Zen Buddhist seclusion or intensive period, consisting of one to ten days of silent meditative practice. Included in these periods are daily Zazen, Dharma Talks/Teisho (sermons), Samu (work) periods, and private interview/meeting (Dokusan) twice daily with Ryuun Joriki Baker, Osho. During Sesshin, the Zen Student concentrates on nothing but collecting the scattered energies of the mind, so they may realize their true nature. For many, the awakened experience feels hidden and separate from our daily lives, in return, we seek it outwardly. It is only when we take a backward step, that we realize how intimate it truly is.

Introduction To Jihatsu (Monastic meals)
Sep 27 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Jihatsu (nested bowls) is a Zen Buddhist Monastic meal practice that originated in Japan. A jihatsu set consists of three to five nested bowls, traditionally made of wood. The jihatsu set is mindfully wrapped in several cloth covers. Within the wrap, the set contains all the tools that are required for the meal. For example; eating bowls, chopsticks, wash cloth, drying cloth, napkin, chants card and various covers. Jihatsu emphasizes “presence” by abiding in an orchestrated set of precise movements that require the practitioner to pay great attention to the endeavor they are engaged in. Each movement is a simple reference point for the mind that encourages one to become present and not wonder in discursive thought. Through this “presence”, we experience a deeper realization of the blessings of life sustaining meals. The meal served will be vegan and contain three traditional offerings. Come join us as we wade into the deep end of the practice of jihatsu and manifest the living expression of this gratitude.
